Cyber-attack on Saipem’s servers

Saipem’s servers have been cyber-attacked and 400 of them were affected as the result. The reasons for the attack are obscure.

Italian oilfield services contractor Saipem states that the company is investigating the effect of the cyber-attack on important working processes and is doing everything to restore the situation. The company revealed the fact on Monday. Servers in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia were affected most of all. In Europe, there was the only attack, in Aberdeen, where only 30 employees worked.

Mauro Piasere, the company’s head of digital and innovation, confirmed that approximately 400 servers were affected as the result of the attack. However, all data is safe, and nothing, except for the servers, has been affected. Back-up copies also haven’t been damaged. A few days will be needed to resume the efficient working process. The reasons or the origins of the cyber-attack are still unknown but are in the process of investigation.
